CEO, Producer & Director
Rehad Desai is a Cape Town-born filmmaker who returned from exile in 1990 and now lives and works in Johannesburg, South Africa. Rehad has a Masters in History and began making documentaries in 1998. He formed Uhuru Productions in 2003 and has been the driving force behind the company ever since. He is also the Chairperson of the Human Rights Media Trust, formed in 2004. Over the course of his time as a filmmaker, he has conceived and produced over 20 documentary films, many of which he has directed or co-directed. Six of these films have been feature length documentaries, produced with significant international participation and have received critical acclaim and wide festival take-up. Rehad is the founder director of the Tri Continental Human Rights Film Festival.

Anita Khanna is the scriptwriter of multi-award winning documentaries, Born into Struggle, Bushman’s Secret and Miners Shot Down. She has written and co-directed several social justice documentaries including Looting the Nation and You Chuse. She is the writer and producer of The Mating Game, an award winning feminist drama series for the SABC, which is currently being aired on SAA international flights. Since 2003, Anita has been a leading member of the Tri Continental Human Rights Film Festival team, becoming Festival Director in 2012. In 2011 Anita was the Outreach Director of Africa’s first Good Pitch², an initiative of the Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation, the Sundance Documentary Film Programme and supported by the Ford Foundation.
A graduate from Big Fish, Jabulani has been with Uhuru Productions for the last three years. He is now an experienced Junior Editor and has shot numerous pick-ups for our productions and of late directed two short corporate documentaries for NUMSA. While his role inside the company is primarily post production, he also has ambitions to be a director.
